How did you come to be a part of the Impact Hub London Team?

I worked in Comms for eight years, across publishing, tech and social enterprise, before doing my MA in Sustainable Fashion & Creative Industries in 2019. After my MA, I wanted to bring together my passion for sustainability with my background in Communications. As luck would have it,Ā I saw the job ad for a Communication Manager at Impact Hub London in 2022 and applied for the job.

What do you love about your role?

I love that I wake up every day knowing that my work matters, both to the entrepreneurs we support and the causes we champion. I believe in the power of social entrepreneurship and community-driven solutions to help solve the challenges of today, which inspires me each day.

I also really enjoy the collaboration that exists within the Impact Hub network, allowing me to learn from so many inspiring people from across the world. I recently attended the Global Gathering with over 90 hubs represented. View on Instagram.

I came back so inspired and hopeful for change. Working in sustainability and social impact can often feel quite lonely, so being surrounded by so many like-minded people for three days, helped me feel deeply connected to myself and the broader purpose of Impact Hub London and the global network.

What has been something you are particularly proud of in your role?

Opening Impact Hub London Euston has to be the biggest highlight!

Iā€™ve worked on the project for nearly two years, and to see it come to life and open its doors in April has been a real thrill. Thereā€™s nothing quite like seeing your hard work in the flesh!

On the same note, being awarded the SE100 award for Social Investment Pioneers with British Land, a key partner in making Impact Hub London Euston a reality, was also incredibly special. Read about the award.

What’s a valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career?

Iā€™ve learnt the importance of taking ownership of my career development. When I was still quite inexperienced, I let opportunities pass me by because I didnā€™t fully believe in myself and my abilities.

As Iā€™ve become more experienced, and taken risks, Iā€™ve learnt to believe in myself and to work towards my version of success, which has made me so much happier!

How do you work to improve your work-life balance?

I work at a social enterprise, so this is always going to be a challenge! For me, prioritising exercise every day, whether itā€™s lifting weights or going for a walk after work, helps me unwind from a busy day.

What’s the most interesting talent or interest you have that most people don’t know about?

I was the South African national archery champion when I was 16!

What podcast would you recommend?

13 minutes to the moon. I love learning about space, and hearing all of the untold NASA stories from the Apollo 11 & 13 missions, captivated me.
